Photos from Tin Shack Studio Blowdowns (January & February 2004) |
February 16 2004 Family Day in Alberta, and the second Tin Shack Blowdown was again a success! Allan Gott, Randy Kaltenbach and myself blew glass from 1pm to about 10pm to celebrate "Don Getty Day". By the end of the day, we were tired but happy. Note: Family Day or "Don Getty Day" was created while this dude was Premier of Alberta. It was not a complete success. It was supposed to be a holiday to break up the bleakness and monotony of February, but most people felt it was just the wrong time of year, and wished that he had chosen sometime in spring. |
January 15 2004 The first invitational Tin Shack Blowdown was a total success!!! The glass was hot, the beer cold. Allan Gott, Randy Kaltenbach and myself started blowing glass at 7pm. The spruce pine batch had been squeezed to 1919F overnight, and then the furnace was ramped to 2070F for blowing. That temperature proved to be perfect in every way. Beer mugs were the order of the night, to inagurate the Tin Shack (seemed the right thing to make). Randy had to leave for hockey at 9pm, but Allan and I blew until midnight. After all was said and done, we all agreed that the first Tin Shack Blowdown was a complete success. Pictures include shots of Randy and Allan working. Randy is the one sitting on the bench putting a handle on his beer mug. There are also shots of the three of us sitting in front of the Tin Shack on a break. Finally there are some shots of our finshed work. My small glass, Randy's beer mug, Allan's beer mug (with the neat thumb handle), my beer mug and finally Allan's "shard vase". |
